Christian
Cardone wanted to follow in father’s footsteps and be a part of the Dinos
football program. In 2017 he will achieve that goal.
The University of Calgary Dinos confirmed that the 17-year-old
Cardone has signed a Canadian Interuniversity Sport Letter of Intent to play
for the Dinos in 2017.
“It was a pretty
big influence that my father was a part of the program here (Calgary), stated the 5’10”, l75 lbs. Cardone
who was approached by the Universities of Saskatchewan and UBC, ultimately
signing with Calgary before entering into discussions with those schools.
The son for
former University of Calgary fullback Remo Cardone, Christian is an
outstanding defensive back who was a member of Team Canada U16 team that
competed in the International Bowl in Arlington,
Texas in January 2016. Like his
father, Christian is a graduate of the St. Francis Browns program. Christian
was a member of the Browns 2015 and 2016 City and Provincial 4A Championship
teams. Cardone also was a starter and league all-star on the 2016 Cowboys
Midget Calgary Championship team in 2016.
“Calgary has a really good
program and felt it was the best fit for me. I am excited as many of my friends
are here,” stated Cardone referring that current St. Francis teammates Joe
Dutton, Cole Belway, and Logan Bandy have committed to the Dinos.
“Christian is a
hard working young that plays very aggressive. He has very quick feet and is a
good tackler. He is as strong on the field as he is the classroom,” states
Dinos recruiting coordinator Matt Berry.
Christian is the
son of Remo and Jennifer Cardone. Remo played for the Dinos from 1988 to 1992
and was a member of their 1988 National Championship team as well as the 1992
Canada West Conference Championship team.
An excellent
student, Christian will enroll in the Haskayne School of Business with hopes of
pursuing a major in Accounting.
