As a young
aspiring youth football player, Tristan Rice always wanted to be a member of
the Dinos. Come the fall of 2017 the talented offensive tackle wishes will come
to fruition.
“Ever since I
started playing football, I looked up to being a Dinos player,” Rice stated.
Head Coach Wayne
Harris is grateful Rice has signed a USports Letter of the Intent to play for
the defending Hardy Cup and Mitchell Bowl Champions.
“Tristan is a
very aggressive offensive lineman. He has a great frame with excellent agility.
He has the intensity to make him a leader on the field,” states Harris of the 17-year-old
incoming freshman.
Rice is a
graduate of the Colts program in the Calgary Minor Football Association where
he played pee wee, bantam and midget. He brings with him a wealth of experience
being a starting member of the Alberta U16 and U18 teams. He was named his
team’s top offensive lineman in midget football and was a league all-star in
the Calgary Midget league in 2016 while playing for Biaggio Iannace.
The 6’4”, 270
lbs. Rice attended Centennial High School in Calgary
where he played for Garth Melrose, and was a teammate of current Dinos running
back Robert Stewart.
A member of the
CFC Top 100, Tristan is a member of Canada’s
U19 team that will compete in Orlando,
Florida later this month.
“Calgary has
great coaching. I really like the family atmosphere that is present,” stated
Rice who was approached by a many USports programs with extensive interest from the
Universities of Guelph and Regina.
Tristian, is the
son of Jim and Karen Rice of Calgary, and will
enroll in Media and Communications courses at the University of Calgary.
