Brigham (Moose) Wilson is no longer
loose. The University of Calgary football Dinos corralled the 6’3, 230 lbs.
Wilson as he signed a USports Letter of Intent to play for the Vanier Cup
Finalists in 2017.
“I have had the
nickname Moose since I was four, everyone calls me that,” stated the 17 year
old who played along the offensive and defensive lines in High School at Henry
Wise Wood.
Wilson brings an impressive list of credentials to the Dinos. He was an
all-star defensive lineman in the Calgary Midget League in 2016 for the
Bulldogs, a two year starter in his final two seasons of High School football,
and an all-star in the Calgary Midget League last spring. Wilson was Defensive Lineman of the Year and
Bulldogs MVP as well as being a Calgary Division I High School all-star the
past two years.
On the
provincial and national levels Moose was a member of the Alberta U18 team that
competed in the Canada Cup and a starter of the Canadian U16 team that
participated and won the International Bowl in 2015 in Arlington, Texas.
“Moose is a
great long snapper. He is also very quick off the ball and is a very strong
defensive lineman for a player that is so young,” states Dinos Head Coach Wayne
Harris.
A very versatile
player, Wilson can play either inside or outside along the defensive line and
also is an excellent long snapper, a craft he has honed since starting playing
football as a pee wee.
“I looked at a
bunch of schools but made no official visits. I liked the family atmosphere
that exists at Calgary,
and liked the coaching staff, and it (football program) is great,” stated
Wilson, who has attended the Dinos football youth camps. He was pursued by
McMaster and the Universities of Regina and UBC.
An excellent
student, Moose will enroll in the Faculty of Kinesiology and is the son of Brad
and Tania Wilson.
