The Twelve Days of Wisewood: Day 3 - DB Jack Burns

The University of Calgary football Dinos confirmed they have added another defensive back prospect from the Henry Wisewood Warriors program in Calgary. Inside halfback Jack Burns has signed a USports Letter of Intent to play for the Dinos in 2017.

A three year veteran with Cody Ehrmann’s team at Wisewood, Burns has been a starter on the senior team for two years and one year with the junior team. He was the defensive most valuable player nominee for the Warriors in 2015 and was a Calgary High School All Star in 2015.

“Jack Burns is a defensive back with outstanding coverage skills. He has shown the ability to convert a turnover into a big play. He is as equally strong in the classroom as he is on the field,” states Dinos recruiting coordinator Matt Berry.

Jack received numerous accolades while playing for the Bulldogs organization in the Calgary Minor Football Association being a midget all-star in 2014 and 2015. The 6’, 185 lbs Burns was a starting member of Alberta U18 team for two years and was a starter on the Alberta U16 for one season.

“When I was young I always watched the Dinos play at McMahon. I know a lot of the guys currently on the team and want to continue to play with my friends,” stated Burns who stated that academics also entered into the decision to play for Calgary. “Calgary has a great business school with the Haskayne School of Business which helped influence my decision,” Burns stated.

Burns was recruited by the Universities of Ottawa, British Columbia, Western, and Manitoba.

He is the son of Kenneth and Michelle Burns of Calgary.
