Defensive back
prospect Cole Torrance has signed a Usports Letter of Intent with the
University of Calgary. The 6’, 165 lbs. safety with the Henry Wisewood Warriors
is one of twelve Warriors joining the Dinos for the fall of 2017.
Torrance has been a starter with
the Warriors in their secondary for the past two years and was the starting
safety for Team Alberta
on their U18 team this past summer. A versatile athlete, Cole can play anywhere
in the secondary.
“Cole is a very
versatile defensive player as well as an excellent special team player. He
covers kicks an elite level in High School,” states Head Coach Wayne Harris.
Cole has been
playing football for almost a decade in the Calgary Minor Football Association
with the Stampeders organization playing both receiver and in the secondary on
defense. He was an all-star with the Stampeders in the Calgary Midget League in
2016.
“A lot of
Wisewood graduates are with the Dinos. I did not want to go away from home for
school and always wanted to play for them as I looked up to them,” stated
Torrance, whose grand-father, the late Frank Bryson was a fixture around
McMahon Stadium. Bryson was a respect CFL official and was a timekeeper at
Canada West and CFL games in Calgary.
Cole is
undecided at the present time what he will study at the University
of Calgary and received inquiries from
the Universities of Ottawa, Toronto, and Alberta about playing in the CIS as well as from Simon
Fraser before signing a Canadian Interuniversity Sport Letter of Intent with
the University of
Calgary.
