The Twelve Day of Wisewood: Day 10 - REC Prince Kivia

The University of Calgary added another receiver from the Henry Wise Wood Warriors with the signing of Prince Kavia to a USports Letter of Intent.

The 17 year old Kavia spent three years with the Warriors, two with the senior team and one with the junior varsity team. He was a starter for two seasons on the senior team that was coached by Cody Ehrmann.

Prince was a member of the Alberta U18 team that played in the Canada Cup in Winnipeg during the summer of 2016 along with teammate Matson Tulloch.

In speaking with Offensive Coordinator Ryan Sheahan about Prince, he stated “He is an explosive playmaker, that has the ability to change the game with big plays, especially in the return game.”

Kavia is a product of the Stampeders organization in the Calgary Minor Football Association playing both bantam and midget football for them.

Calgary is the best fit for me. My friends are going to the University of Calgary and felt I would be comfortable playing there,” stated the 5’9”, 160 lbs. Kavia who has excellent speed and quickness who also approached the University of Alberta and Simon Fraser.


Prince is the son of Derick and Gladys Kavia and hopes to enter the Haskayne School of Business this coming fall.

The Twelve Days of Wisewood: Day 9 - REC Matson Tulloch



The University of Calgary continues to stock pile players from Henry Wise Wood, confirming that speedy Matson Tulloch has signed a USports Letter of Intent to attend the University of Calgary for the 2017 football season.

A product of the Falcons Bantam and Midget programs, Matson played two years of Midget football and was a member of the his school’s senior team for two seasons. He was a starter in his senior year and backed up current Dinos receiver Kelton Bailey in his Grade 11 season for the Warriors.

Matson was a member of the Alberta U18 team that played in the 2016 Canada Cup and was the Midget Falcons Most Valuable Player in 2016.

“I worked with Coach Chapdelaine (Dinos receiver coach) at the Canadian Football Academy and he is great to work with. I also have a lot of friends going to play for the Dinos or are currently on the team, and I wanted to play with them,” stated the 5’9”, 160 lbs. Tulloch.

“Matson is a very intelligent receiver and a good play maker. He runs great routes and is technically very sound for such a young player,” stated Dinos Offensive Coordinator Ryan Sheahan.

An excellent student, Matson will enroll in either Kinesiology or Biological Sciences courses.

“The University of Calgary is a great school,” Tulloch added who was approached by Simon Fraser University and the University of Toronto.

Matson is the son of Colin and Cathy Tulloch.

The Twelve Days of Wisewood: Day 8 - LB Devin Derouin

One of the premier linebacker prospects in Alberta and perhaps Canada has committed to the University of Calgary Dinos for 2017. Devin Derouin, from the Henry Wise Wood Warriors has signed a USports Letter of Intent.

Despite still being 17 year old, Devin will play for Canada at the upcoming International Bowl in Orlando, Florida as a member of Canada’s U 19 team in January 2017. Derouin was an all-star at last year’s Canada Cup in Winnipeg when he played for the Alberta U18 team and won team Defensive MVP honors in two games.

While playing for Cody Ehrmann in High School he was a two year starter on the Senior team as well as being a starter on the Warriors Junior team in Grade 10.

Devin played Bantam and Midget football for the Stampeders in the Calgary minor football association.

“Devin is an excellent student-athlete. He is a  very intelligent player with great quickness and range a strong hitter,” states Head Coach Wayne Harris.

An honors student throughout High School, Derouin will enroll in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary. He graduated from Grade 11 with Distinction and was his team’s nominee for the Harry Hood Award that goes to the top graduating High School football player that combines academics, athletics, and community service that is sponsored by the Calgary Booster Club.

“The football program at Calgary is outstanding. I also like the support system they have in place with academic counselor Dr. Cindy Baum. I am also familiar with coaches and how they operate,” stated Derouin about his decision to commit to the Dinos over the University of Alberta.

Devin is the son of Jason Derouin and Winona Pidperyhra.

The Twelve Days of Wisewood: Day 7 - REC Blake Klotz



The University of Calgary football Dinos confirmed that talented inside receiver Blake Klotz has committed to the team for 2017 by signing a USports Letter of Intent. The 6’3”, 200 lbs. Klotz has been on the team’s radar for the past couple of years.

A Calgary Midget all-star, the 18 year old Klotz was a member of the Alberta U 18 team while in Grade 11 and also played for Big Country Region at the Alberta Summer Games. While playing Bantam football he was a member of the Calgary Bantam Selects team that was coached by Greg Peterson that participated in games in St. Louis, MO.

“Blake Klotz has excellent size and shown he has good hands. We look forward to having Blake (Klotz) with us in 2017,” states Head Coach Wayne Harris.

“I liked great coaching staff that they have at Calgary in offensive coordinator Ryan Sheahan and receivers coach Justin Chapdelaine. I did some training with Justin (Chapdelaine) and enjoyed it,” stated Klotz whose father Kevin coached football at Foothills Composite High School just outside of Calgary.

“The incoming recruiting class at Calgary is good and I wanted to be a part of it,” stated Kloltz who attended Henry Wise Wood in Calgary and will be joined by many players that he is familiar with.  

Blake was approached by McGill and McMaster Universities as well as UBC but will enroll in the Haskayne School of Business or Arts at the University of Calgary.

Blake is the son of Kevin and Jody Klotz.
