Like many other positions, the
Dinos were decimated by graduation along the offensive line following the 2012
season. Offensive tackles Kirby Fabien and Carson Rockhill are in the CFL with
the B.C. Lions and Hamilton Tiger-Cats respectively. Both will be missed in the
running and passing game. All-star offensive center Quinn McCaughan and guard
Reed Alexander both graduated. All-star guard Sean McEwen is the only returning
starter from 2012 and will be looked at to provide experience and leadership to
young group.
Sukh Chung saw extensive action
as a backup at both tackle and guard in 2012 dressing the entire season and fills
the void at guard. Red-shirt freshman Jordan Fillippelli (Edmonton Salisbury)
will fill the void at one of the tackle spot after taking considerable reps
with the first unit last year. Other potential starters along the offensive
line are junior Braden Stevens (Winnipeg Oak Park) who dressed and played
considerable at guard and center last year as well as participating in the
East-West game in 2013 and red-shirt freshman Braden Schram (Paul Rowe,
Manning, AB.)
The offensive line will have a
new look not only in personnel but also coaching. Veteran CFL Coach Steve Burratto
joins the program in 2013 and will handle the offensive line.
Freshman Ryan Sceviour (Bowness)
is a blue-chip prospect that is challenging for a starting spot along the
interior. Sceviour is a second generation U of C athlete, his father played
hockey for the Dinos while his mother started on a National Championship
volleyball team. Red-shirt freshman Connor Bryan (Victoria, Mount Douglas) has
had a solid camp thus far and is also competing for playing time. Other key
first year players are Matt Huber (St. Francis) and Tyrel White (Chinook,
Lethbridge) both of who have impressed Buratto thus far.
