This is another area that was hit
by losses. Only outside linebacker Thomas Spoletini returns. Spoletini gained
valuable experience at Saskatchewan Roughriders camp this past summer and will
be counted on to provide leadership and experience. President’s Trophy nominee
Mike Edem and Jordan Verdone are with the Montreal Alouettes and Zach McNeill
(graduated) and Brian Hagen (retired). Cory Roboch started much of last year
before being sidelined with injury and returns for this third year. Doc Cassama
has been moved from the secondary to linebacker to help fill the void.
Potential starters include red-shirt freshmen Carson Stambene and Emilio
Gallotta, also a trio of impressive freshmen Brad Friesen (Edmonton Jasper
Place), Ian Ojekale (Calgary Centennial) and Tyson Lee (Notre Dame). Junior
Tanner Doll is also in the mix and Alex Ogbongbemiga moves from the defensive
line to linebacker, in hopes to bring a very physical presence to the
linebacking corps.
