Dinos Place 23 on CFL Rosters as Camps Open


With the open of the 2014 CFL season, there are 23 Dinos fighting for roster spots in camps across the country. There is at least one Dino on every roster across the league this season. The most Dinos once again are concentrated on the roster of the Montreal Alouettes, there are 8 of them in camp this year. Participating in the Calgary Stampeders Camp, is Dinos quarterback Andrew Buckley, this allows Andrew to gain exposure the the next level, before returning for his senior season. Listed below is where you can find all your Dinos in the CFL this season.

DINOS FRESHMAN PLAYER WINS PRESTIGIOUS CALGARY ITALIAN CLUB SCHOLARSHIP:

University of Calgary receiver Giancarlo Spoletini was the recipient of one of the Calgary Italian Sports Club scholarships that were award last week at the 52nd annual Calgary Italian Sportsman’s Dinner that featured Fox Sports announcer Joe Buck as they keynote speaker.

Spoletini is currently completing his Grade 12 at Rundle College. He will enter the University of Calgary this coming fall and study Economics. To receive a scholarship from the Calgary Italian Club the individual must have academic requirements, displayed a level of sportsmanship, with his parents or grandparents being of Italian heritage. He is the son of former University of Calgary fullback Tony Spoletini who started on the 1983 and 1985 Vanier Cup Championship teams.

Over the years many outstanding players for the Dinos have been the recipients of awards from the Calgary Italian Club. Current players with the Dinos that are past recipients are linebacker Carson Stambene and receiver Michael Klukas, while Giancarlo’s cousin, Thomas Spoletini was a recipient in 2009. Spoletini graduated from the Dinos this past year and will attend the BC Lions Training Camp at the end of the month.

Senior Bowl Recap 2014

This past Monday Football Alberta held the 25th Annual North South Senior Bowl. The North Team emerged victorious 14-10. There were eight future Dinos on the roster of the South Team, QB Bailey Wasdal (MCLA), REC Will Maxwell (St. Francis), REC Isaiah McLellan (Wisewood), LB James Gaetz (Wisewood), DB Andrew Britton (Wisewood), DB Aaron Statz (ND), DB Nick Statz (ND), and DB Kendrick Ankamah (MCLA). Aaron Statz of Notre Dame in Calgary was named the Defensive MVP of the South Team. Aaron blocked two kicks in the game, returning a blocked punt for a touchdown. Congrats to all those future Dinos that participated.
