Lucyshyn First Local Player to Join 2016 Dinos



Defensive back Matt Lucyshyn has become the first Calgary High School player to sign a Canadian Inter-university Sport Letter of Intent with the University of Calgary Dinos for 2016. Matt and his parents were guests of the team at the game Saturday afternoon against the University of Saskatchewan and signed the during the team's pregame function, the Badlands.

A two-way player for the Bishop Grandin Ghosts, Matt was a starting defensive back on the Alberta Provincial U18 team in July 2015. He was named Most Valuable Defensive Player at the University of Calgary summer camp this past August. Earlier in 2015 he was named Male Athlete of the Year as well as Defensive Most Valuable Player in Football at Bishop Grandin. His High School Football coaches include former University of Calgary all-Canadian linebacker Wade Buteau as well as former Dinos receiver David Holowaychuk. Lucyshyn played minor football in the Stampeders organization and was Defensive MVP for the Midget Stampeders in the 2015 spring season.

“Matt is one of the best defensive back prospects in Alberta. He showed he could play at the national level at the Canada Cup this past summer,” states University of Calgary Head Coach Wayne Harris. "We are very excited to have a great student-athlete like Matt, join our program.

“This (U of C) is the best fit for me from a football, family, academics and support standpoint,” states the 5’11”, 160 lbs. Lucyshyn stated who was seriously recruited by Simon Fraser University."I'm very excited to be a Dino."

An excellent student, Matt will enter the Schulich School of Engineering next fall working towards a major in Petroleum Engineering.
