Regina Leader-Post: Sam Hurl's success has deep roots

Sam Hurl is once again the Saskatchewan Roughriders' mane man.

Hurl is growing out his hair this season after suffering through an injury-shortened 2013 CFL season. Hurl, Graig Newman and Scott McHenry all cut off their shoulder-length hair after the 2012 season as part of a fundraiser for cancer.

Hurl's longer locks have already made a difference. On Tuesday, Hurl was named the CFL's Canadian player of the week after recording seven defensive tackles and recovering a fumble in Saskatchewan's 37-9 win over the visiting Toronto Argonauts on Saturday.

"Each week it gets a little longer and each week I've been playing a little better," Hurl said after Tuesday's closed practice at Mosaic Stadium. "The hair for sure is coming back. It might have something to do with the success."
