McEwen vs.
McEwen has taken place at least three days a week since the Dinos started fall
camp back in August. Big brother Sean McEwen goes up against his little brother
Jack McEwen during contact drills.
Third year
offensive center Sean McEwen is a mainstay on the Dinos offensive line since
joining the team in 2011. His brother, Jack, a nose tackle, is two years
younger and is a freshman on the 2013 Dinos.
“They go at it
every night in practice,” states Coach Matt Berry but so far no scraps have
taken place despite the competitive nature of both brothers.
The elder
McEwen started at offensive guard in his first two years with the Dinos
directly from Notre Dame
High School. This year
Sean moved to offensive centre and Jack plays nose guard, so they line up right
across from each other many times a nite.
Sean was a
conference all-star at guard in 2012 and at centre in 2013. He has been a major
force in the team’s rushing game and pass protection and is regarded as one of
the premier offensive linemen in the Conference if not the country in just his
third season.
Jack has
dressed for five league contests as a true freshman and has played considerably
at nose guard backing up starter Brett Wade recording three solo tackles.
“I am a very
competitive guy so I do not want to loose to him,” states Sean, a third year
Math and Sciences major, “I tried and help him (Jack) with the mind set and
knew he could compete at this level.”
Jack is
appreciative of his brother’s help. “Sean has taught me stuff at the university
level and everyday I try and get better,” states Jack who is surprised at the
amount of playing time he has seen as a freshman.
Both Sean and
Jack took the same path to the Dinos having played youth football with the
Hilltoppers organization before heading to Notre Dame Collegiate.
“Sean is one
of the top linemen in the league and Jack has great potential,” states Head
Coach Blake Nill who is delighted to have both McEwen boys in the program.
