EXPLOSIVE COUGAR NOW A DINO



The University of Calgary football team confirmed that Jamal Noel has signed a Canadian Interuniversity Sport Letter of Intent to attend the University of Calgary and play football for the Dinos. The 5’7”, 165 lbs. Noel has spent the past three seasons playing football for CEGEP Champlain-Lennoxville in Lennoxville, Quebec in the RESQ. While at Champlain-Lennoxville he was a starting inside receiver and return specialist helping his team win the league title this past year.

 “I was impressed with the manner the team was run. Everything is run very professional and it is close to being run like a professional program, especially the off-season training program,” states the 21-year-old Noel who has four years of CIS football eligibility remaining and decided to attend Calgary over the University of Guelph.

Noel also liked the level of alumni involvement with the Dinos program. “The alumni are big part of the program and I want to be involved and part of something special like that when I leave the program,” states Noel who currently serves as President of the student body at the CEGEP he is currently attending.

“Jamal is one of the fastest recruits in this year’s class. He is very dynamic whose speed makes him a threat every time he touches the football,” states Calgary offensive coordinator Ryan Sheahan.

Jamal is a native of Chateauguay, a suburb of Montreal and played youth football with newly recruited quarterback Adam Sinagra.

Noel is an excellent student who is fluently bilingual in English and French. He plans to take liberal arts courses with aspirations of entering law school.

Because of CIS regulations, Noel is unable to participate in spring football practice that commences on April 29.

Jamal is the son of Elizabeth Davidson and John Noel.

NOTRE DAME STAR JOINS DINOS



One of the top graduating High School players in Calgary will remain in town for his post-secondary football career.

Versatile Ted Kubongo, a graduate of the Notre Dame Pride, that were Calgary and Provincial 4A Finalists in 2015, has signed a Canadian Inter university Sport Letter of Intent to attend the University of Calgary this coming fall. Kubongo was a starting member on the Pride’s Calgary and Provincial 4A Championship team in 2014.  He played both ways in his senior year for Coach Dave Duluzio’s team earning Notre Dame’s Most Valuable Player and being named Calgary High School all-star this past year. He was an all-star in the Calgary Midget football league playing for the Hilltoppers organization.

The 6’, 185 lbs Kabongo played running back for the Pride this past year, but will move the across the line and play defensive back for the Dinos.

“Ted has great athleticism and is a physical player that likes to hit,” states University of Calgary Head Coach Wayne Harris, who also stated Kubongo “was one of the best High School players in Calgary in 2015.”

Kubongo brings an impressive list of achievements during his High School career. He was a member of Team Canada International U19 team that participated in the International Bowl in Texas this past January. This coming July, he will join fellow University of Calgary recruit, Kelton Bailey  as one of the two Calgary graduating High School seniors that will participate in the Montana East West High School Shrine game in July in Butte, Montana. Kubongo also has been selected to play for Canada at the World U19 Championships in China later this summer. He was also named a CFC Top 100 player in 2015.

“I chose to play at Calgary because it is close to home where my family is and the U of C has a great program,” stated Kubongo who was recruited by numerous Canadian universities including Saskatchewan, UBC, Carleton, Manitoba and York.

Kubongo will join High School teammate, offensive lineman Daniel Townsend on the Dinos and plans on studying Economics.

TOP ONTARIO DEFENSIVE BACK COMMITS TO THE DINOS



Treshaun Abrahams-Webster wanted the opportunity to see another part of Canada. The talented defensive secondary player will get that opportunity with the University of Calgary Dinos football team during the 2016 season.

“Calgary gave me the chance to see another part of the country and play for a coaching staff that I liked and felt comfortable with,” stated the 5’11”, 185 lbs. Pickering, Ontario native. He spent this past year playing against American competition at Canada Prep located in St. Catherines, Ontario. While in High School in Pickering, Treshaun was a Greater Toronto Area Top 100 player and was an all-star in the secondary. In addition to his football exploits Abrams-Webster also competed in track.

Abrahams-Webster was a starting member of Team Ontario that participated in the International Bowl in Dallas, January 2014. In addition he was a member of Team Ontario that was National Champions at the Canada Cup held in Saskatoon in July 2014.

“I am thankful to have the opportunity to show my talents to the excellent coaches in Calgary and look forward to working with Coach (Marcello) Rapini,” stated Abrams-Webster who is an excellent athlete who has played all positions in the secondary but will play corner with the Dinos.

“Treshaun is one of the best defensive backs in the country in this year’s class,” states University of Calgary Head Coach Wayne Harris, “and is very aggressive and good against the run.” He is rated in the CFC Top 100 for 2015.

The 19-year old Abrams-Webster was recruited heavily by numerous schools including UBC, Saint Mary’s, and various Ontario schools ultimately choosing Calgary where he will study Kinesiology concentrating on Human Kinetics.

Treshaun is the son of Abena and Terrance Abrams-Webster.
